ANNOUNCEMENT FOR MEMBERS!!!
I submitted some of my artwork so you can understand better the refractals. In order to be close to a handmade piece, you have to find a shape or express feelings by colors. :)
:new: Now the gallery has categories :D

I'm officially presenting the REFRACTAL, a reinterpretation of the fractal image.
The refractal is a digital image, a fractal made in a fractal program which is trying to get close to a handmade artwork or that could be painted.

The special characteristic of the REFRACTAL is the airbrush, watercolor, oil or acryl effects!
All the artwork in the club's gallery can be found by effects category:
Oil and Acryl Refractals
Airbrush and Watercolor Refractals
Lanscapes
Super shapes and Concepts
:new: Pencil

Refractal= redefinition

SUBMISSION
Send a note with the subject "Join" and add the club to your watch list.
For submission send a note with the links of the images, 5 images per note. If you can't decide on the images, send a note for the recommended fractals.
:new: 10 images/week for a while :)

RULES
Images should be JPEG [any size] and containing a fractal image as a "Refractal" [close to handmade artwork]
That's all!!! :)

sweet... i've had a process in mind, that i think will work quite well.. it involves making transparencies and using an overhead projector to scale the image to the sizes necessary, tracing each of them and making stencils. the image used can be complex like a fractal or simple like a square, etc.. as long as one pays attention to numbers and stays consistent with the pattern, (ie; number of iterations, placement of objects, etc.) then i do believe it is entirely possible to "render" a fractal by hand and on a very large scale.
there is a room in my house that was recently created by destroying a wall between two rooms. we're in the process of rebuilding it. i am hoping to be able to use this room as a canvas and create my first of these fractals...

and on the subject of using photoshop to create fractals..
i'm not talking about using KPT to render a fractal in ps and then running filters and applying various layer combinations.. that's fairly simple to do. the process i'm using is to take an image/shape (this can be produced/captured by various means. ie; fractals, brushes, stock photography, etc..) and making an action that makes a copy and transforms it. the simplest i have found is to pick a center point, then scale it by a percentage and rotate it some degrees.. if you repeat this action 60 or so times you will see a spiral begin to form. repeat a couple hundred more times and spiral reaches the center point and the object that is being transformed is too small to see. example:[link] since spirals are fractals then one could say it is a fractal, even though it's not truly self-similar as the spiral does not consist of many smaller iterations of that same spiral. spirals also represent infinity. i've been reading about m.c. escher, he had some very interesting ideas on the subject. this piece is especially representative of this concept. [link]
these actions can become much more complex. here are some examples of what i mean. [link] [link]
and this last one.. [link] isn't completely consistent as the layers have been jumbled a bit, but was created using 12 different steps, repeated 12 times. i think the more complex the you make the pattern the closer you can get to creating the implication of self-similarity in the image.. notice the small bunch of spheres just to the right of the largest sphere.

anyway, fractal forms can be found in nature, drawings, patterns of the butterfly's wings, trees etc :)
but the challenge is now to make even more complex and detailed work if we want to make them by hand. if u can reach a good level, send me the pics and i'll make a section of "hand-made refractals"
    it would be awesome!

this will be more than an interesting conversations. the idea about refractals started by getting the digital generated image to a hand-made piece.
if i got it well u want to try making these fractals on your own :)
from the start i don't admit a fractal made in Photoshop. but the final idea it's to make such great images on canvas, paper and even walls inspired by fractals. the only problem is that a digital generated image as a fractal is very hard to reproduce but i really think we got to try. i started to do fractals to get on refractals and in the end making them ready for printing or for airbrush :)

question: would a fractal rendered by means of spray paint and various stencils created in different sizes in order to create a seamless self-similar mural, count as a refractal?

or perhaps a fractal turned into a brush and then repeated in various ways to create the impression of self similarity, count as a refractal?

just curious.. i don't think it fits your definition of "refractal" but it seems you are more inclined to be open to ideas of abstract conceptual fractal design.. so i thought i'd see if i can't start up an interesting conversation..

hmm, i think posting all those images is a bit much though. i mean, lots of us have deviant art galleries, but we don't post all of it... usually linking to your gallery is much more likely to get people to visit it, than if you paste the whole thing to be loaded at once etc (compared to the user clicking what interests them most).
